Wang Zhi (王质) takes on two roles in Southern Song Dynasty, a litterateur as well as a scholar. He made a contribution to the research on Book of Poetry (诗经) and to the literary creation. His book, Shi Zongwen (诗总闻), is considered to possess much high value, which attaches importance to comprehend verse according to the meaning contained in it. At the same time, it preserves a great deal of data about phonology and the interpretation on words and sentences appearing in ancient books. Wang Zhi (王质) , as a productive writer, today, his Xue Shan Ji (雪山集) in 16 volumes and Shao Tao Lu (绍陶录) in 2 volumes are all in circulation. This thesis includes several aspects with regard to him, such as the experience in Wang Zhi's lifetime, his official career, the affairs associated with other people, all the works produced by him, the collation between various editions and detailed research into his literature.The thesis can be divided into five chapters. Firstly, I investigate Wang Zhi's family and experience at length, trying best to reappear the actual life Wang Zhi undergone. The study done above can provide a convenience for exploring his literature. Secondly, the paper discusses the editions concerning the existent and nonexistent works, furthermore, this chapter concretely emends Xue Shan Ji .The third one carries on further exploration into the theme, content and the artistic achievement with respect to his articles, poems, phrase respectively. The memorials to the throne written by Wang Zhi bear distinct characteristics, a part gaining outstanding accomplishment within his essays. And, on top of that, some travel notes also obtain success. His poems both have a large quantity and high quality, for example, the Qigu (七古), Qilu(七律), Qijuei(七绝). The styles expressed in them are diverse, namely, bold and unrestrained in the Qigu (七古) , implicit and introverted in others. In addition, there are a wide range of topics involved in his phrases, for instance, the patriotic feeling, the reclusive life, the meditation on the past. All of them being possession of individual features can be viewed as the representative of Wang Zhi's.
