Classical Sensibility And The Integration Of Modern Consciousness

Cao Wenxuan is a writer being engaged in children's literary creative writing as well as a scholar studying modern and contemporary literary criticism. He holds the view that literary creative writing can not be separated from literary criticism. Based on his academic viewpoint, the thesis is intended to analyze comprehensively the unique significance of his children's literary creative writing from both the classic and the modern aspects.The thesis consists of five parts: The distinct significance of his chosen themes and aesthetic pursuit is briefly stated in Introduction. Chapter One mainly analyzes the integration of classical spirit and modern thinking. Chapter Two puts emphasis on his unique pursuit of classical spirit. The picturesque natural scene, the harmonious pure human nature, the pitiful classical tenderness and the gentle sadness which give his works a sentimental grace. Chapter Three primarily discusses the absorption of modern thinking reflected in his works. Firstly, it is reflected in the thorough description of the modernists' spiritual dilemma; secondly, it is reflected in his ingenious use of symbolism and pursuit of metaphysical trend in literature. The unique significance of Cao Wenxuan's children's literary creative writing is further stressed in Conclusion. Meanwhile, the deficiencies existed in his works are also pointed out.
