Kafka is the father and prolific explorer of the contemporary literature in west. His literary creation, to some extent, has created the new prospects for the majestic development of the contemporary arts, producing a seminal and special influence on the development of the world's literature. However in life, he is one of the most failures. Throughout his life, he lived in Prague, a small piece of land. As a bachelor, he nearly never left his parents to live independently. He is nameless during his lifetime, but becomes famous at a night after death. Some people say that the twentieth century belongs to Kafka. In a sense of the literary influence , it may not be excessive . Through literature ,Kafka shows people a ghostly but extremely real world. When walking into this literary world, through the surface of the ghostly hell, you can hear the yell from the bottom of human souls. At some extent , it reflects the writer's distinctive characteristic and the complexity of his personality. Because Kafka's literary principle completely corresponds with his personality. No writer like him creates for expressing the soul. His works are not"made"by skill to win the laureate for him. They even are not created for exhibition, but purely, they are a part of his life. Or you can say, an indispensable way of his survival.Walking close to Kafka and knowing about his complex infernal world, the importance of that is not inferior to thoroughly reading his works. The sign of Kafka's life and the characteristic of his creation are inevitably connected with a philosophical term, that is"paradox". It refers to the logical bi-paradox and balance of some thing. Kafka shows the deep paradox in all aspects of feeling, creation and life. As a result, it consists of his predominant paradoxical personality. This thesis based on this theory, shows his complex experiences of life by the analysis for Kafka's creation, thought, feeling and life pursuit. Besides, it tries to make a clear perspective and carding for his paradoxical personality. The thesis consists of two great parts. The first part mainly presents Kafka's paradoxical way of life. There is no difference in Kafka's experience of growing and living. His parents'powerful and glorious history, on the one hand, brings him the superior material life; on the other hand, it adds the incorporeal strain on his growth. That"criticizing father"is an important theme for his literary creation really has something to do with it. Then, it presents and analyses his paradoxical personality with two small parts."Paradox"is not only Kafka's creative aesthetics but also is his philosophy of survival. His whole spiritual structure is thoroughly a typical paradox: on the one hand,"everything can destroy me". On the other , a person can't live without"an indestructible thing". The weakness of an aspect makes the strength of another. The failure of life pushes him to the artistic peak. The real existence of the two opposite extremities that is difficult to live together, causes his fate's solemnity, but at the same time, it realizes the life's immortality. This paradoxical life evolves and proceeds in the game chase among the literature, feeling and death: pursuing the temperature of love in the literature and searching for the artistic inspiration in the surrender of feeling; corroborating the value of the life in the literature and realizing the freedom of soul in the consumption of life. Taking it as a inlet, it presents the reasons for the formation of Kafka's paradoxical life style and its representation. Kafka's status as a jew consists of the tone of his roving emotion. Meanwhile, the lack of sense of belonging directly brings about his fear of the love for all the world. However, the humankind's social instinct impels him to join in the society and to enter the group. This is the paradox. Generally, the individual growth gradually enters the society under the family's support.. However, parents'indifference, on the one hand, makes his soul full of fulmination against his parents and thus keeps him pursuing avoidance persistently marriage and writing is the last hope for saving him; on the other , he isn't reluctant to give up the warm light of affection that is indispensable for walking through the hell. All the elements consists of the final fear and question: how to live? That is how to die. The recognition and experience of social life is the only and the most immediate way to survive. As an individual, Kafka keeps the expectation and fear of social life, which consists of his refusal of and eagerness for death. Death is the beginning but also the end of fear. Writing is the only way to keep conscious on the way to death. Only if one has grasped the way can one realize the salvation of life and death. Thus, the soul's freedom and salvation can be realized. The second part analyses Kafka's personality phenomenon in a sense of personality psychology. Personality is a kind of complex mental structure. The formation of specifically given mental structure is inseparable from the specifically given external factors. The failure of Kafka's changing feeling and the indelible diffident emotion are both the representation of his personality and the internal reasons. In terms of a personality psychologist——Horney's theory, a personality differentiates from the majority because has the particularity and also greatly different from the visual angle of external culture. The tragic destiny's spiritual temperament of"doing riskily regardless of perspective"in Sisyphus'style, is the mainstream of the western progressive spirit, and it's also one of the means by which the intelligent persistently progresses forwards. However, the most majority haven't practically carried it out. As a result, it become a peak that the western spirit can't reach. It can only be a prophecy and a fantasy for summoning people to proceed. However, Kafka has carried it out with life, but he is considered to have a predominant neurotic personality.
