The paper takes "imitation"—the core concept of vision art in ancient Greece Rome period as a content. To begin with the initial meaning of the imitation in Pre-Scocrates time,the paper introduce and read Plato and Aristotle's imitation theories gradually,in order to analyse the imitation's meaning of ancient vision art. Up to the 4th century B.C.ancient Classical period of Greece,there were four kinds meanings of imitation most in use;in Hellenistic and Rome period,the imitation still was the focus of the scholars,but the point of the discussion transformed to the object of imitation as well as the creation process of art works.One of the brilliant contributions in Classical period was the appearance of the definite imitation theory. The scholars of Hellenistic and Rome period had reserved this theory in principle,but added something on details and objections,in actually,that was just their contributions to the history of imitation theories.
