Abstract/Summary:
Wei-Jin dynasty is the most disordered and complicated period in Chinese history. In that time, China was separated into North and South for more than 200 years, and a great deal of writings appeared. Many predecessors successively presented their theories about the difference of writing style between North and South, but they nearly did not discuss the difference of vocabulary. So, some scholars began to study this object, and they have made some progresses presently. To detailed explore the difference of meaning and grammar in North and South's vocabulary, we select the adverbs used in Shi Shuo Xin Yu and Qi Min Yao Shu as an object to discuss the similarities and differences, and illuminate the difference in its usefulness due to long isolation. The dissertation divides into three chapters:Chapter I. Outline and comparison for the adverbs used in Shi Shuo Xin Yu and Qi Min Yao Shu. After firstly classified, adverbs divide into some sub-categories secondly. We first describe the adverbs used in both books, then do charts to exhibit clearly and compare concisely, finally we draw a conclusion. The conclusions are that: the adverbs used in the two books have much common features, which illuminate their development and evolvement in Middle Chinese and spoken style; the little difference is that, the adverbs used in Shi Shuo Xin Yu are relative colorful, while their positions used in Qi Min Yao Shu are relative free.Chapter II. Comparison and study for the new-birthed monosyllabic adverbs used in Shi Shuo Xin Yu and Qi Min Yao Shu. By detailed comparison, we find that the new monosyllabic adverbs used in Shi Shuo Xin Yu are more universal at that time, while some new monosyllabic adverbs belonging to dialect appeared in Qi Min Yao Shu.Chapter III. Comparison and study for the disyllabic adverbs used in Shi Shuo Xin Yu and Qi Min Yao Shu. By detailed comparison, we find that: from the structure of the disyllabic adverbs, there are more suffixal adverbs used in the former book and there are more coordinate adverbs used in the latter; from the change in Modern Chinese, the reserved rate of the adverbs used in the latter are higher than the former; from the range of the adverbs in Middle Chinese, the disyllabic adverbs used in the two books nearly are more universal at that time and each book has a few adverbs belonging to dialect.
