| By the comparing research between the Confucius image created in the Record of the Historian and the images in the documents before it, the paper is in order to find the unique feature of the Confucius images created by Sima qian and its reasons, and to explain the artistic laws of the figure creating in the Record of the Historian.Above of all, we classify the documents about Confucius before the Record of the Historian in the first part of the paper. Then we seriously analyze each kind of the documents, and induce the characteristics of Confucius and ideology.In the second part of the paper, we analyze carefully the image of Confucius created in the Record of the Historian. And we conclude three characteristics of Confucius from the Hereditary of Confucius. They are ability, positive and unused by the monarch.Through the researching method of analyzing and comparing, we find the three unique of the Confucius image created by Sima qian in the Hereditary of Confucius. The first one is that some characteristics of Confucius in the documents before the Record of the Historian, for example, the thought of the Legalists and the Taoist school, weren't displayed in the Hereditary of Confucius. The second one is that some characteristics of Confucius in the documents before the Record of the Historian, for instance, erudite, being good at teaching and moral integrity, were weakened in the Hereditary of Confucius. And the last one, also the important one, is that some characteristics of Confucius in the documents before the Record of the Historian, such as positive and unused by the monarch, were enlarged in the Hereditary of Confucius. Accordingly, we believe that the reasons of the unique characteristics of Confucius in the Hereditary of Confucius are the principle of faithful record, the main characteristics of Confucius that Sima qian wanted to display and the sympathy in undergoing and cultural personality of Sima qian and Confucius.
