Multi-syllable heteronym word is a quite special kind of word in Chinese. This kind of terms is unlike the multitone character, because they have two or more syllables. And it is unlike average multisyllable terms, because they have two or more pronunciations, and at the same time it has two or more meanings. Contemporary Chinese dictionary printed in 2005, contains 216 this kind of terms.At present, the analysis on this kind of word is very few, and there are many problems exist in one aspect or another. This thesis mainly focuses on the prnunciation, meaning variation, internal winding of the theory, ways of production, unbalanced development and uni-sound tendency of this kind of word. And through a survey on the mastering situation of this kind of word among the native speakers and foreign-speakers, we come to the following conclusion: This inner-inflection phenomenon exists in both ancient Chinese and modern Chinese and in the middle- ancient times Chinese language. They have their own characteristic, usage, and rules of development. And the development of this kind of word is identical to the development of Chinese. So the existence of multi-syllable heteronym words are not contradict with the standardization of Chinese. But it is necessary to set some rules on the pronunciations and other aspects of these words, according to their characteristics and usages. And this is different from the account of variant-pronunciation words. So we should treat them respectively.The standardization of multi-sound words of contemporary Chinese is a very complicated problem. It should be done with the aim to facilitate people's use, facilitate the whole norm of the spoken and written languages and to the information processing of the language. Under the principle of follow tradition,conform to simplicity,clear meaning, easy to pronounce, we try to make an overall plan in an all-round way. So, the principles of standardizing the mandarin Chinese vocabulary should be flexible, and at the same time the standardizing process should be a dynamic process.
