"The normal mind is the way to Zen Buddhism" is the essence of Mazu Zen and a symbol of Nanzong Zen to melt in China thoroughly. It replaces Indian Buddhist world to save the soul of the Buddha. In light of its esthetic free lifestyle which searches for escape, it replaces the world of Indian Buddhism to save human souls. When Mazu Zen has become a kind of poetic spirit, it will have an effect on esthetic culture of a certain age. Therefore, it is possible to interpret the relation between the essence of Mazu Zen and esthetic cultural in Song Dynasty. In consideration of the esthetic culture that is a intermediate culture between esthetics and esthetic phenomena, this paper is to explain the relation both in spirit of Mazu Zen and esthetic cultural awareness of Song Dynasty in a rational way, on the other hand, with empirical evidence to correct and prove the relation between "The ordinary mind is the way to Zen Buddhism" and esthetic culture of Song Dynasty. The paper consists of five parts:Introduction, The interpretation of "The ordinary mind is the way to Zen Buddhism"This part introduces the essence of "The ordinary mind is the way to Zen Buddhism" whose sure foothold is the point of "To integrate self into Buddhism", which lies special emphasis on the development of self consciousness to value yourself and oppose to any restrains to people who believe Buddhism from the classical and experts. On this basis, Mazu Zen stresses individuality in the process of Buddhism mediation.And Mazu Zen studies "You are Buddhism, Buddhism is you", that is, as long as a person lead a life with his ordinary mind, he can find "A road to Buddhism ", as is the peak representation of a Buddhist. It is with the spirit of the "Road" makes Mazu Zen pay great importance to "present" life because in Mazu Zen's view once the adherent can abandon external pursuit and chase, the moment will become eternal, become Buddha. These characteristics of Mazu Zen not only provide noble classes of Song Dynasty with a way to escape from reality, but also to bring them a poetic way of life as well as new quality to Song esthetic cultural development.Chapter 1, "The ordinary mind is the way to Zen Buddhism" and noble classes'psychology of Song Dynasty -- contraction structure formed from unique social,cultural and political environment in Song Dynasty.The literati of Song Dynasty in order to survive and develop in such a contradictory social and cultural structure, in which to preserve their integrity and personality balance beyond the pain and loss in life, to access to the quiet and happy life become extensive needs of them on spiritual, mental, beliefs and Esthetic, which opens a door for the Mazu Zen to enter inner world of the literati. This chapter is mainly to elaborate the psychology to conform to Zen in Song Dynasty, its formation, and the impact to the noble classes of Song Dynasty.Chapterâ…¡, "To live a life of milk and water" --the overall cultural estheticpursuit in Song Dynasty.In this chapter, the main consideration is to discuss the influence from "The ordinary mind is the way to Zen Buddhism" of Mazu Road to the literati. The noble classes in Song Dynasty appeared to emphasize "plain" esthetic, which expressed the Song esthetic (poetry, paintings, porcelain) in a plain and rational way. This chapter is mainly to solve the problem how "the road" inspired the literati for "plain" Esthetics, and in the Song Dynasty esthetic culture how to support this esthetic concept.Chapterâ…¢, "To conform to the self".This chapter expounds primarily on the Mazu Zen's peaceful spirit which stresses to break the time and space obstruct between "I" and Buddha bringing the classes a new art mind. And this mind promotes the esthetic culture to conform to the self, which lets the literati have a new view on some esthetic forms (appreciation of mountain and water, Landscapes and Song poetries) and have different esthetic activities (calligraphy and painting) in Song Dynasty-- individuality-oriented.Chapterâ…£, "Seek flavor of art."Here we focus on the requirements of Mazu Zen, that is, in a limit space (landscape) to appreciate the wisdom of "Wu" which is one of the highest spirit Buddhists pursuits. This makes the Song Dynasty literati pay much attention to the flavor from Landscape beauty. In their views, the concrete of this beauty is manifested by the adoption of a means of artistic expression. Among this, people can understand the wisdom of "Kong" which is one of the highest spirit Buddhists pursuit. It is the pursuit that the Painting from Song Dynasty expressing a characteristic of "superior to mundane affairs".
