Puccini,a representative of Italian verism in late 19's and early 20's century, is featured by his creative opinion of displaying and recreating ordinary women's ordinary lives. He was zealous in depicting the low lives at the bottom of the society. Since the glamour of opera is mainly embodied in the specific images it has created, this thesis tries to probe how the singers should re-compose the Cio-Cio-San Puccini employed through the analysis of Madam Butterfly ,from both theatrical and musical points of views .This thesis aims not only to help excavating deeply really artistic and aesthetic connotation of the Cio-Cio-San's images ,bettering our understanding of the opera ,but also enable us ,the aria singers to present ,to mode this figure more perfectly in real performance.This thesis consists of four chapters:The first chapter focuses on the composer's creative experience,the composition background and psychology of the opera Madam Butterfly.In chapter two ,the author ,on the basis of the play book, makes a study on the creation of Cio-Cio-San's theatrical images ,pointing out the character feature of the figure and the action of stage arts.The chapter three analyzes the creation of Cio-Cio-San's musical images,and how the singers should re-compose it.The last chapter discusses the style and artistic charm of the Puccini's operas through Cio-Cio-San's images.
