Fractal Art In The Traditional Chinese Pattern Design

As one of the significant branches of non-lining science, the theory of fractal is a kind of effective Maths-Model and tool which describes exactly natural phenomenon and social phenomenon. The fields of Fractal contains all kinds of subjects for scientific studies. The object for fractal study is to discover the regular pattern as well as physics-essence hindden disorder in nature. It not only includes richful Maths element, but also it has a wide use and deep artistic value: As one of the important part of Chinese civilization, the traditional pattern's figure-character is much like that of the fractal figure, which contains much fractal thoughts by its phylosophic significance. With the widely-spreaded of fractal art, we combine fractal art with Chinese traditional pattern and put it into practice, which can show the significance of science and esthetics, on top of that, it is helpful for innovation of pattern-designing method, to inherit and develop the excellent character of Chinese traditional pattern, to mix art and science together by way of designing for creative pattern. The main work of Thesis:First of all, it shows the development and basic ideas of fractal theory, and it outlines the development and use history of Chinese traditional pattern, and next, it analyses the main problem existed in the project, as follows, there is point-imperfection for studying fractal art;there is not enough use of its creative designing;there is few studies for fractal art in traditional pattern-designing, and then it shows content, significance and structure of the whole thesis.It studies the character of figure of fractal art:Being alike itself, harmony and dymanic balance and character of figure-forming for traditional pattern:symmetry and balance, increase and decrease, changing and uniting,contrast and compromise. It studies the fractal thoughts in Pre-Qin Dynasty philosophy, it describes character of Being alike itself, simple and complex, definite and random in it;it analyses the direct similarity between traditional pattern and some fractal figures, such as Selbinski's triangle and Yang Shao culture.Selmi-slope,triangle point-pattern;it also analyses too much figures reflectingcharacter of fractal and it thoughts in traditional pattern and some fractal figures:Xushi brocade in Donghan period,and pattern in cup of Zhanguo period. It also tells that it is convenient for designers to form fractal figures to use special software. It also shows six advantages for creative pattern-designing: 1. Its attraction is strong 2.It can enlighten designer greatly and make them understand it clearly 3. It strongly suited to the times 4. It has strongly-used character of fractal pattern 5. It quickly forms the creative designing by use of fractal 6. It instructs the creation of pattern-designing by way of fractal thoughts.It shows two kinds of creative methods, which contains direct-forming and artistic-processing. It studies forming and figure character in individual pattern:decorative pattern form, suitable form, point form,angular form and marginal form. It shows that the fractal artistic figure can be used into individual pattern-designing, and it can form much individual pattern, it shows that the individual pattern in typical type can be formed artistically the fractal figures, and it generatesPeano curve, dragon-type curve, hilbert curve of regular geometry-type and also Julia collection,flower individual pattern. The practised fractal forms a lot of unit-pattern, and with the base of studying Two sides Successive pattern such as scattered points, wave, oblique line, and it tells designing methods and creates a lot of figures for Two Sides Successive pattern, and tells its widely use. It not only suited to the textile-designing, and the same as the construction and carpet pattern-designing. While it uses Four sides Successive pattern such as methods of scattered points, spots and overlapping, different kinds of it and its figure not only has different forming type, but also richful figures, it can also solve the problem to the single and few figures.And it enriches the scope of use of traditional pattern for fractal, which can be used generally in pattern-designing, and it shows the example of designing;and also it tells some advantages such as uniqueness,variety and easily-identification of anti-false for practising the traditional pattern designing; it shows the method for fractal turning into three-dimensional terrain and its prospect for surrounding designing in fictional movies and Tvs, it describes that its stereo figures have advantage such as originality,peculiarity as wellas its strongly eye-penetrating,it can form 2 terrains for three-dimensional and fictitious;it can put traditional fractal pattern-designing into decorations and make its effect creatively.To sum up,the thesis combines fractal with Chinese traditional pattern-designing method, it studies and develops the creative designing for pattern,which adds to the creative method of traditional pattern-designing as well as its theoratical tool.When we further study the fractal art, it can be used in the fileds such as the traditional art,which paves the way for the fractal being studied in the field of art.
