Maurice Ravel (1875 — 1937) , in the history of French music, is one of theimportant composers inheriting the past and ushering in the future in the late 19th century and early 20th century. As an outstanding master of orchestral color and a pianist, he produced a lot of excellent piano works in his lifetime. Although Ravel's works in the early stage resembling debussy's impressionism, he, after entering the period of composing mature, formed his unique style on the basis of exploring ancient musical tradition of France, recomposing tunes in folk music, as well as generally grasping rules of the classical or romantic music.Piano Concerto in G major and Concerto in D major for the left hand, the last piano compositions in Ravel's old age, which fully manifest his well-versed composing techniques, musical style, and aesthetic principle, are another zenith of his composition. This thesis will explicate them from the following several aspects:1. Briefly introducing Ravel's life and his piano music.2.
