Hezhe people live in the reaches of Heilong River, Songhua River, and Wusuli River. The Hezhe language belongs to the Altaic phylum. With a population of 4,675 (2000), the Hezhe ethnic minority is one of the smallest minorities of China. It is mainly in Heilongjiang Province, Tongjiang Jiejingko, Rahe, street-four Row, Ethnic Bacha, Jiamusi, Huachua, Fujin and Fuyuan. Hezhe used to make a living by fishing. Although it has a small population, Hezhe people still create rich and varied music art which are very valuable such as "Jialingkuo" (general name of folk song), Hakanbuli (swan oriental dance music),Saman music and "Yimaka" (talk-and-sing music) and so on. "Yimakan" is representative music art of Hezhe. Because Hezhe only has language without character, "Yimakan" is handed down by Hezhe people's general talking and understanding. "Yimakan" is art treasure which has a long history and comes from fishing and hunting ethnic minority. It is not only cultural treasure from generation to generation, but also important part of Chinese culture.Through the research of Hezhe 'Yimakan' music art and the understanding of music pattern and true nature characteristic of this special art, this dissertation goes a step further about the relationshipbetween music and folk custom culture.It is very necessary to study 'Yimakan' in order that we know more history of Hezhe and develop Hezhe music art. At the same time, it provides important references for protecting traditional Hezhe folk music.This dissertation An Exploration and Study of Hezhe 'Yimakan' Talk-and-Sing Art for Master's degree makes an inquiry into Hezhe talk-and-sing music 'Yimakan', according to the researchs of Hezhe region in Jiamusi City of Heilongjiang Province.The author approaches 'Yimakna' music characteristic from Ethnomusicology angle and explains the relationship between 'Yimakan' and culture.There are five parts in this dissertation.Introduction: The author sets forth the purpose, significance and research method for this dissertation. At the same time, the author explains the history and present state of 'Yimakan' music.Chapter1: "Memories of running—Hezhe history and culture" This chapter introduces history culture, folk custom of Hezhe and social cultural background of 'Yimakan'.Chapter 2: "Songs of fishing and hunting in the forest—Hezhe music art" This chapter gives a briefed idea about Hezhe traditional Chinese music type in order to go further into research topic 'Yimakan'. It also discusses 'Yimakan' status in Hezhe music essence of 'Yiamkan' creationand basic attribute of its oral text.Chapter 3: "Talk-and-Sing theme—'Yimakan'" This chapter makes an indepth analysis of 'Yimakan' music according to research and materials which come from characters, melodies and everyday life. The focal points are essential analysis about 'Yimakan' music, summary of special feature and logical relations.Chapter 4: "Folk encyclopaedia—cultural explanation for 'Yimakan' music." This chapter discusses the relationship between people's ideas and folk culture of Hezhe 'Yimakan'; This chapter also sets forth existence, changes and present situation of talk-and-sing music 'Yimakan' in the modern social and cultural background.
