Deep rooted in the masses, language to a nation is as if the blood to the flesh. All elements of the national spirit and national cultural psychology penetrate deep into every vessel of the national language. Therefore, by analyzing the national language, we can catch some traces of the national culture and psychological characteristics. Culture is everywhere, while vocabulary can directly and actively represent the culture. Besides rational meaning, some words indicate the national culture as well. Thus there comes National Cultural Semantics, a new subject of this study. Starting from the vocabulary of wind, flower, snow and moon, this thesis unscrambles the unique national cultural meanings in the cultural signals, and studies the national cultural background and psychological elements behind. Two aspects, "language represents the national culture" and "national culture in the language" are covered. The author wishes it may be inspiring for the Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. The four cultural words of "wind, flower, snow, and moon" contains rich national cultural meanings. In previously studies, they are usually studied from the perspective of the literature or pure culture. Upon this basis, this thesis will be conducted from the national cultural semantics, a new perspective, and will sum up, clear up, classify, fractionize, deepen, and supplement their individual and interwoven and combined meanings in the national culture. For the sources of the national cultural meanings, during the cultural background clairvoyance, besides digging from the social history, literary quotation, religious beliefs, national practices, and geographical climates, the thesis focuses on the exploration from the psychological root of national culture by "cultural psychology revelation" from the perspective of the national cultural psychology. Thereinto, the "complex of land" and the "complex of perfection" are the domination. Around them, Chinese people's pursuit for "the beauty of roundness" and the "focus on land" and their influence on the Chinese language as well as the reflection of this psychology in the language are probed into. In addition, this thesis also extends explanations on some language facts from the aspects of "tabu & superstitious psychology", "reserved psychology", "following psychology", etc. This thesis attempts to introduce the research results into the Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. As a TCSL teacher, one should also explain the students the national cultural meanings hidden behind on the basis of a clear introduction of the conceptual meanings of words while teaching them the meanings of words. All these above should be taught step by step with consideration to the foreign learners' levels and targets. The acquisition of national cultural meanings makes an important part for the language acquisition. Only if the students have commanded some national cultural words, can they avoid or reduce errors in the cross-cultural communication, and thus get the actual success and finally master the Chinese language in an actually manner.
