Pei, "zuo Zhuan" Studies

Liu shipei is generally acknowledged to be one of the famous specipalist of Confucian classics in the last phases of Qing dynasty. He inherited the ancestral ideas of Confucian classics from his forefathers. He wanted to restore the Confucian classics and commentaries on them of Han dynasty. Liu shi pei and his forefathers made up their minds to finish a book named Chun qiu zuo zhuan jiu zhu shu zheng. This book retains Chunqiu zuozhuan 'annotations of Han dynasty.As one of the Chinese classics Chunqiu zuozhuan aroused a lot of controversy from Han dynasty to Qing dynasty. In Qing dynasty, some Gong yang scholars, like Liu feng lu, Kang you wei, thought Chun qiu zuo zhuan was a spurious edition and the Chunqiuzuo zhuan 'annotations of Han dynasty was absurd. They declared that the Chun qiu gongyang zhuan was more reasonable than Chun qiu zuo zhuan. Liu shipei completely accept the Chunqiu zuozhuan 'annotations of Han dynasty. He debated about Chunqiu zuozhuan with the Gongyang school and got great achievement.Du yu is a famous specipalist of Chunqiu zuozhuan in Jin dynasty. His book of Chunqiu jingzhuanji jie is considered as authority. But Liu shi pei thought Chunqiu zuozhuan 'annotations of Han dynasty were more reasonable. Liu shi pei criticzed Du yu' ideas about Chunqiu zuozhuan. It is also said that upholding doctrines and righteousness can fully foster Confucian spirit of li (rites) and yi (righteousness) teachings. However, an in-depth study will reveal that being faithful to history and interpreting Chun qiu on the basis of hidtorical facts does not in any way undermine the teachings of Confucius. It is surprising that Liu shi pei insists on Jia kui and Fu Qian ' interpretation excessively. This is his flaw in studing Chunqiu zuozhuan.With a series of arguments and exertion, Liu shi pei suggested successors to study the rites, principles and instances of Chun qiu zuo zhuan.
