Modern Chinese Idioms And Their Cultural Connotations

As the parallel saying of Chinese Xiehouyu and proverbs, idiomatic phrase play an important role in modern Chinese vocabulary unit. Some linguists and scholars have done some research on character, scope, structure and applying of idiomatic phrase since 60's in the 20 century. But few articles have done some special research about what idiomatic phrase reflects about social culture.This thesis is a research on idiomatic phrase from the perspective of cultural linguistics. And the thesis mainly covers these aspects: distinguish of idiomatic phrase, analysis of semantic, and research on the intention of idiomatic phrase. This research is helpful for our language study and culture exchange. In addition, it can enlarge our range of eyes about learning society and culture.Idiomatic phrase which is from the people and come up with our daily life is full of emotion and spirit of age. The reason that analysis idiomatic phrase in a derogatory way, this thesis mainly employs the spoken language and psychological factor to explain.At last, this essay does some research on cultural connotation from three aspects: material, institutional, and spiritual culture in order to let people learn more about what the idiomatic phrase reveals.
