Research On The Idiomatic Phrase Of The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary (the^5th Edition)

The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary of the 5th edition(CCD for short), which is the most authoritative Contemporary Chinese reference books currently, with the characteristics of time and unification, is incomparable with any other dictionary. Although there are some different versions of dictionary on the Idiomatic Phrase published, but they are with all kinds of opinions, and very different, especially in recording the Idiomatic Phrase. Therefore, it is hard to determine which one is the most authoritative version on the Idiomatic Phrase. Agreement has yet to be reached on the designation, nature, and scope of the Idiomatic Phrase, and there have always been controversial on the research on the types of structures. The most obvious differences between researches of semantic have not yet come to a well-recognized claim. Therefore, it is essential to research the Idiomatic Phrase furthermore. This paper attempts to search features to analyze and try to explain the characteristics of the idiomatic phrase with the contemporary linguistic theory, by assessing the idiomatic phrases in CCD.The text is divided into six chapters:Chapter I, the'Preface', at first, illustrates the origin of this selected subject. Since the concept "phrase" has been put forward, scholars had various aspects on the academic research and analysis, but it should not be ignored that there are many disagreements today. Idiomatic Phrase as the most important colloquialism, it's necessary for us to do further analysis and research. Secondly, this paper outlines the theoretical value of the research topics and application value of Chinese words is an important task, is also a prerequisite for foreign language teaching theory. Finally, it is an overview of this paper the object of study, research method and its steps.Chapter II describes the various characteristics of the idiomatic phrase in CCD. Three syllables form is the main form, nearly 80 percent of the idiomatic phrase are the structure of VP. The stationarity of the idiomatic phrase structure mostly due to the interdependence and the inseparability between the elements'meaning. Meanwhile, it also has the character of discreteness because of the trend of lexicalization. In the semantics, the quantity of neutral is larger than the amount of derogatory. The meaning character of VP idiomatic phrase find expression in the four roles: object, result, pattern and tool.Chapter III shows three paraphrases of the idiomatic phrase in CCD: descriptive type, parable type, descriptive and parable type, which found by the paraphrase analysis to the idiomatic phrase in CCD. This chapter shows one suggestion on the set of synonymous idiomatic phrase. We advise that the phrase which has a low usage should appear as a subjoinder, leading by'another saying is…'.Chapter IV applies modern linguistic theories to discuss the idiomatic phrase, which divided into two parts. At first, we find the Cognitive Linguistics for help, consider that the character of the double-deck-meaning is made by metaphor, which is the bridge between the surface meaning and the deep meaning, and the argument can be found in the metaphor. Secondly, we analyse the lexicalize regular on the view of Rhyme syntax. Because of this theory, we can know that the form of [2+1] is fit for the principle of'right-direction-foot', and is easy to turn to vocabulary; But the form of [1+2] does't fit that principle, it is'reversal foot', so it's hard to turn to vocabulary.Chapter V put our attention on the research of the usage, including the question that how to make a better teaching for the idiomatic phrase in Teaching Chinese as a foreign language. We have tried to raise three teaching methods : structure-teaching, semantics-teaching, culture intervention, we want show them in they own characters.The final chapter makes a briefly outlines, tells the summarized the research achievements and deficiency.
