The Ili Presidential Birthplace Research

Qi Yunshi initiated a new scope in the research on the history andgeography of northwest frontier of our country, which made the topologyof northwest frontier an important ology during the period betweenEmperor Daoguang and Emperor Xianfeng. It, therefore, became anindispensable aspect in the academia of late Qing Dynasty. Scholars suchas Xu Song, Zhang Mu, Li Zhaoluo, Guo Zaikui, He Qiutao, GongZizhen, Wei Yuan were all benefited and enlightened in the way ofpursuing their studies. Scholars of that time, for instance, Hu Singjingduring Daoguang and Xianfeng, Zhang Zhidong , Liang Qichao and ChenKangqi in late Qing Dynasty, all thought highly of his contributions to thegeography of northwest frontier. Modern scholars, such as FengChengjun, WuYanshao, Gao Guanru , Wu Tingxie, Cheng Zuwu, JiDachun, Qi Qingshun, Zhou Pixian, Jia Jiangfei, Guo Liping, Zhu Yuqiall,Hou De'ren, all made some relevant researches on Qi Yushi and hisworks. However, a systematic research on his career, academic thinkingand all his works on the geography of northwest frontier was lacking.Although some researches on YiLiZongTongShiLue were made, it was stillsome superficial work, and lacked profound and special researches.YiLiZongTongShiLue was a representative one of all Qi Yushi's works on the geography of northwest frontier, which was finished during Emperor Jia Qing period, a time Qing Dynasty was going from flourish todownfall, also a successive time of writing books in flourishing era from Emperor Qianglong. We can say that the book written in the time of social transformation was representative, especially duing the time of political and academic transformation of that time. Influenced directly by the book, another famous works on the geography of northwest frontier, that was QinDingXinJiangShiLue, had been written by Xu Song's supplement. In this dissertation, the author made some researches on YiLiZongTongShiLue in the academic backgrounds of Emperor Qianglong, Jia Qing and Dao Guang, analyzed the writing process and style of the book ,as well as his academic thinking process, from which we can regress the image of first person of geography of northwest frontier, and have an exact orientation of his status in the field of researches of all the works on topology of northwest frontier.This dissertation consists of five chapters, they are as follows; The first chapter is a summary of Qi Yunshi's career. In his chapter, on the basis of HeGaoNianPu written by Qi Yunshi himself, the author discusses three aspects of his career by compiling all the relevant documents about Qi Yunshi. The key discussions are paragraph two and three.The second chapter is the research on his academic thinking. In this chapter, the author studies the growing and traformation process of QiYunshi's academic thinking, linking with his experience of growth andpursuing knowledge.Chapter three is about its edition Prevalence.Chapter four is a summary of YiLiZongTongShiLue. This part is the main one of the dissertation. The author makes a comparison between this book and the books fore-and-aft on the geography of northwest frontier in terms of style and interrelations in the view of philology.Chapter five is a discussion about the record of Qi Yunshi's books .
