When both post-verbal elements are desired, the verb is often reduplicated. However the verb-copying constructure is not always mandatory. So the question here is : when should verb-copying occur and what are underlying factors governing its variation ?Past works have approached this problem from different perspectives , especially from syntactic structure (such as Huang, 1982) and the iconic principles (Tai, 1986/1989). Each of them accounts for part of the verb-copying constructure , but fails short of an explanation general enough to cover the large quantity and variety of data.It is therefore the purpose of this thesis to contribute to more satisfactory solution to the problem. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | ", construction | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
