Culture Of The Overseas Chinese Network Perspective Thinking

"China studies" rising after the Second World War in the United States, mainly studies Chinese academic work by using society research methods .From the inspection of historical origins, overseas Chinese studies ideas gives the impression of change rapidly, innovative frequently, and precedable explanation in theory. The theory and practice in Social Cultural History (also known as New Cultural History) research reflect the latest development trend of overseas Chinese studies, for example" the cultural nexus of power " proffered by Chicago Professor Prasenjit Duara who connect the culture search with the social study and discuss the co-operation among the elite ,the ordinary, the local, and the State from the perspective of the cultural nexus of power in his book" culture, power and the State : 1900-1942, the rural North China". Therefore, this essay summarize systemically overseas Chinese studies research since the 1960s, from which we may have a distincting view on the preceding character in theory and the change in the studying way so that we can learn from it and form our own framework in studying Chinese modern history.This essay mainly includes the following five parts:Firstly, introducing the concept system in " the cultural nexus of power ", especially the bordery of the concept ,the origin of the theory and connotation;Secondly, presenting "clan analysis model" and "the cultural nexus of power" about Friedman and introducing a framework for analysis clan models system, especially focusing on the difference and similar between " culture network model" and " clan analysis model";Thirdly, recommending Philip Alden Kuhn and his " the cultural nexus of power," evaluating the "Imperial China late rebellion and enemy," a book representing Philip Alden Kuhn edge thinking and academic style, and interpreting the structure of the local social network , the cause-effect analysis from the cultural perspective, thus sharpening the current culture-oriented in social research;The last two parts summarizing the main features when overseas Chinese studies' specalists construct the space systems and proposing the academic mission faced by Chinese scholars.
