Shunji Iwai layed his status of New Japanese Film Movement Champions by the "love letter", thus cause the discussion of "Shunji aesthetic". When Shunji Iwai began to direct pictures, the Japanese bubble economy is ruptured, the overall economy has shown a trend of decline, the overall economic decline is to bring the psychological panic and uncertainty about the future for people has spread throughout the state of Japanese society. Naturally Shunji Iwai can not escape through the panic and uncertainty, while Japan highly developed capitalist inherent characteristics of the post-industrial society is also laid a mark on Shunji Iwai. So this thesis mainly analyse the radical and pessimistic features of Shunji Iwai's films, which is effected by the social environment, and this theses will discuss the glamour feature about the form of his films. The thesis include how these features are showed in the film and the reasons for the emergence of such features, and so on. Through such studies, on the one hand, I can give a detailed description of the development of the theme of his films, on the other hand, I may provide another point of thinking about his films. The method is to consider his film in the whole Japanese domestic social environment, so we can find the source of the feature of his films.The first chapter of this thesis will explore the radical feature , which is arrested in the films, from the narrative structure, male and fatherhood. The second chapter is to discuss the pessimistic feature of his films, including life and death, loneliness and alienation among people. The third chapter will analyze the glamour feature about the form of Shunji Iwai's films, including images, editing and the feature as prose style.
