The Analysis On The Imaging World Of Shunji Iwai

In the 1990s, Japanese filmdom launched a massive "New Japanese Film Movement" within the scope from Aisa to the world.Shunji Iwai is one of the group of middle-aged and young directors who emerged during this period. He becomes the pillar of current Japanese filmdom by the delightfully fresh and special image, and the delicate tactful expression in his films . The "Love Letter" which is Shunji Iwai's first feature film is marking work as he to be the "New Japanese Film Movement"s flagman . Since then, Shunji Iwai's works rove between the mainstream and the edge, convert easily between tradition and morden, and also won the critics and the audience.The first chapter of this thesis will explore the topic about youth from the two aspects of the contradiction between the the youthful dreams and reality and the youthful protestion in Shunji Iwai's films; the second chapter will explore artistic features in Shunji Iwai's films from the two aspects of modern means of expression and traditional aesthetic style; the third chapter will explore the dominance of youthful female in Shunji Iwai's films. through such studies, I hope to explore the reasons for the success of Shunji Iwai and unique artistic charm in his films.
