Time And Space Of Metaphor

Metaphor has attracted the attention for scholars nearly in all fields for more than 2000 years since Aristotle, especially in recent years metaphor has become a focus on cognitive linguistics. As the basic factor in organization system of people's life, space-time is in essence metaphorical, and though space and time are regarded as basic concepts, it has already been noted in various languages that the abstract notion of time has to be understood and expressed in terms of space. Thus this paper on the basis of the contemporary theory of metaphor makes a deep illustration on time and space metaphor, especially on comparative study of Time As Space metaphor between English and Chinese, and analysis the causes for the differences and similarities in order to reveal the relationship between cognition and culture.
