A Proverb is a succinct, popular and educational sentence, which has circulated among the people and is an important part of the national cultural heritage. From the proverbs, people can learn more about a nation, such as the wisdom, the way of handling affairs, the social system, the social custom and habits and the mode of production etc., while the historical changes and the social reality of a nation can be reflected truly and naturally in the proverbs. From the perspectives of cultural linguistics, comparative linguistics, social linguistics and the folk literature, this thesis will focus on the comparative analysis and study of the proverbs in Mongolian language and Manchu language of the Altai language family including the aspect of the semantic meanings, the history and present situation, the changes and the development. Apart from that, the national culture and its characteristics of changes reflected in the proverbs will be revealed so as to further analyze the relation between language and culture.
