This paper aims to discuss the scholar-bureaucratic feature of Feng Yansi's poetry from the perspective of elegancy and self-emotional expression in two chapters.The first chapter discourses upon the elegancy of his poetry in two parts. The first part deals with the reasons for the elegancy and carries on the discussion from the social background, the aesthetic origins, the artistic cultivation on him,the identity and status of him and the worries in his heart about the loses and gains as well as the hopes in his mind rested on his words of the poetry. The second part treats with the embodiments of the elegancy evidenced in the emotional appeal, the style and tone, and the artistic conception of his poetry. The writer believes that Feng's works, different from "Huajian Ci" which are characterized with dainty and flamboyance, are purer and full of cultural implication owing to the exertion of a great deal of literary allusions. Feng Yanshi put to use of analogy and endued the classical topic with inwardness and taste.The second chapter focuses on the emotional expression of Feng's poetry. His works contributes much to poetry's function of self-emotional expression. There are two major characteristics of his emotional expression in the poetry, which are discussed in two parts. The first part reveals the sense of misery embedded that was aroused by the wanning influence of the country and the rough experience of his life and manifested itself with various intricate and interlaced emotions. The second part concentrates on the retrospective thinking in the self-emotional expression in his poetry. Feng Yansi kept his works from describing concrete persons and incidents but specialized in the mood, feeling and experience of the figure so as to promote the sense of misery to a higher philosophical level.
