Ye Xie And Eliot Comparative Study

Gu Zhuzhao proposed that there are four kinds of pattern in the modern transformation of ancient theory of literature: the research of similarity, the research of mutual-complementarity, the docking type research and the discrimination type research. Based on this four patterns, this thesis compares the theory of literature between Ye Xie and T.S. Eliot. From the image theory and the viewpoint of literature history, to find the similarity and necessity of dialogue between China and western countries.In China, the book "Yi" mentioned "to express feelings by creating symbols", scholars in Han Dynasty proposed the theory of "Bixing", Liu Xie mentioned "Shen Yong Xiang Tong" from the aesthetic point of view, the knowledge of "image" became more and more abundance along with the time. Unlike other literary theorists, Ye Xie corrected the deviation and returned to the original meaning of "image" in a higher level. In western, Kant's "aesthetic idea" was practiced by imagist. Influenced by imagism, Eliot put forward the theory of "objective correlative". Both Ye Xie and Eliot recognized the "image" was physical and metaphysical, it could break the limitation of language and introduce people to the kingdom of aesthetics.However, there are differences. Ye Xie, who focused on the expression of feelings, was sensible, Eliot, who concentrated on the creation of symbols, was rational. From these three aspects: the fulfillment of imagination, the significance of thought and the harmonius form, we can further understand the difference.The history of literature has already become an important way in literary research. Hundreds years ago, Ye Xie tried to change the disorder in other theorist's critiques. He combined the history of literature and literary criticism, and exposed the course of development in the history of poetry.
