John Locke (1632-1704) is a famous philosopher in the history of EuropeanPhilosophy, the outstanding representative of the modern Britain's EmpiricalPhilosophy. Locke' thought is wide and profound, many schools of modern westernphilosophy can find the thought origin in Locke here. Locke's theory of knowledge isthe important component in his philosophy, the determinacy of knowledge and thescope of knowledge is the core which Locke pays more attention to. The article'intention is to carry on systematic research and elaboration, attempt to make rationalexplanation and objective evaluation on some questions in Locke's theory ofknowledge. The subject of this text is composed of five parts as following:The aim of this thesis's first part is mainly to explain Locke's theory about thenature of knowledge. Locke thinks it is impossible that the ancient Greece philosopherregards knowledge as one kind of independent without the human and comfortablyexisted things, because the knowledge is connected with the human. Locke believesthat the nature of knowledge is the consistent or inconsistent relations between twoideas. Based on this viewpoint, Locke divides the knowledge into four kinds: identityor difference, relations, coexistence, and solid existence.Second part briefly elucidates and analyzes systematically the determinacy ofknowledge. In Locke' theory, the determinacy of knowledge means it is true withoutproved and it is universal inevitability. Based on the different determinacy ofknowledge, Locke divides the knowledge into the intuition, confirmable andpercipient knowledge.Third part mainly elucidates Locke's theory about the scope of knowledge indetails. Locke thinks humanity's knowledge cannot surpass the idea's scope thatobtains from the experience, even this scope also could not achieve. Just in here,Locke denies the possibility which human establish the physical science and thespiritual science, it displays a agnosticism's tendency. This is the Locke's empiricismstandpoint logic inevitable result. The fourth part mainly elaborates Locke's theory about knowledge's reality andthe conception of truth. In order to solve how to be consistent between the ideas andthings itself, Locke advances his theory of knowledge's reality. Just in here, Lockebreak through his theory about "the nature of knowledge is the consistent orinconsistent relations between two ideas", puts forward another theory of knowledgethat is about special thing: percept itself is the knowledge. In this foundation, Lockethinks the truth is the ideas conforming to the real things.Fifth part briefly elucidates and analyzes systematically the influence of Locke'stheory of knowledge. The influence is huge, it deeply influences 18th century Franceinitiation scholar, materialism philosopher, the attempt walked middle-of-the-road lineHume, Kant, as well as the modern west each empirical philosophy school, the speechanalysis school of thought.
