| With the fast growth of metro traffic, metro public art has received muchmore attention, which unfolds multiple development trend. However, the currentsituation of China's metro public art still can not shake off the stereotypedimplication of public art. Based on this concept, the setup position and formatare tedious and rigid, without giving enough consideration of the metro's trafficnature as well as passengers' sense and experience in metro space. It held that toset up public art at a certain spot can perfect the overall metro environment. Theconcept can hardly realize that metro station differs from general public artbackground, the former requires pertinent appropriate design to avoid tediouslayout and less communication with passengers. This thesis firstly reviewed the history of metro public art and the currentsituation of public art, advertising light box and posters within metro space, andsuggested that the setup position and format of public art shall have to take thetraffic nature of metro space into consideration and to carry out design frompassengers' sense focus. The second part of the thesis compared specific cases from home and abroadto analyze the differences and similarities of the setup position and format ofpublic art. The comparison indicated the deficiency of domestic design and theadvantages of excellent abroad design cases that can be used for reference. The third part focuses on examples investigation. Representative metrostations in Nanjing and Shanghai were taken as the examples for investigation tounderstand the present interactive situation between metro public art design andmetro passengers. The survey found out that passengers' sense focus onadvertising and there is very little interaction between public art and passengers. The main reason is that most of the present public art have similar setup positionand format, which is tedious and rigid. Meanwhile, plenty of advertisingsignificantly affects public art. The metro space without public art works setup, for instance, platform, channel, entry and exit stairs etc, simply neglectspassengers' feelings, which gives passengers the impression of tediousatmosphere without any sense of art.The last part of thesis made a conclusion and proposed followingsuggestions: firstly, to break the concept inertia of fixed layout, public art shallbe equipped with multiple layout formats;secondly, reduce the amount ofadvertising and to simplify the space and improve space quality;thirdly, to learnfrom the multiple setup position and format of advertising and excellent abroadcases;fourthly, only human-oriented public art design can be more appropriatefor passengers;fifthly, to improve the most neglected metro channels. Changeson metro channels can bring passengers sequential sense experience in metromotion and create more suitable design to the area. It is expected to wake uppassengers' new sense experience with public art in the fast moving metrosystem. The study of this topic can provide a primary understand of the setupposition and format of public art in metro stations and offer a reference for thetheory and practice of China's metro public art development. |
