Although antonymy,as an important lexical phenomenon, exists as early as in inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells, it gains the attention of researchers only by recent years. Also the research object is limited in pre-Qin documents and in synchronic study rather than diachronic study. The goal of this thesis is by abstracting representational corpora from ancient Chinese, and then by analyzing and descrying the antonyms concerned, to try to explore the characteristics and law of the antonym polymerization, thus explore the reason of evolution in antonyms polymerization on the basis of historical comparison. The corpora I chose is Yan's Family Instructions in South and North dynasty. Regarding it as a representative of lexical system in mid-ancient age, and meanwhile taking other corpus and exegetical material into consideration, I firstly do quantitive combing to the antonym polymerizations in Yan's Family Instructions on the basis of a certain criterion. Then I do subtle analysis and description from six aspects of quantity, word class, content , anti-meaning relations , semantic contrastive relationship and demonstrative formula. At last I based on the above work do historical contrastive research on the commonly used antonyms polymerization and deeply explore the reason of its evolution. The research method I used can be generalized as:First, dissecting sparrow, from the points to the side, that is, taking Yan's Family Instructions as a point to spy upon the side of lexical system in mid-ancient age;Second, classifying and doing static description;Third, doing dialectically analysis with a mixture of synchronic and diachronic research. My conclusion is there're so many antonym polymerization in Yan's Family Instructions used in a high frequency;more adjectives and verbs than nouns;the antonym content is broad;the demonstrative formulas are various;the semantic contrastive relation is complex;there exist complicated elements for the evolution of antonyms polymerization such as word substitution ,semantic change^ syllable change as well as grammatical change.
