Subjective well-being(SWB) is a general assessment of a person's quality of life according to his own chosen criteria. It includes both affective reactions and cognitive satisfaction judgments. The studies of SWB focus on some issues such as conception, influential factors and mental mechanism. It passed three phases. During the first phrase, researches focused on demographic variables to describe and compare levels of SWB among different samples. Then, some theories were raised to interpret and understand the mental mechanism of SWB. And in the third phrase, the psychometric methods were developed and improved. In study 1 and 2, the College Student Subjective Well-being Scale(CSSWBS) was developed. Tested on 365 college students (164 male, 201 female, average age is 21.8 years), the study explored the structure of SWB including 8 dimensions: self-satisfaction, family satisfaction, negative emotion, positive emotion, energy, life satisfaction, social behavior and interpersonal relationship. Confirmatory factor analysis on 490 college students (206 male, 284 female, average age is 21.5 years) showed that the structure is acceptable. The scale is reliable and available. In the applied study, 653 college students (220 male, 433 female, average age is 20.5 years), which completed the CSSWBS, were evaluated the difference of gender, between rural and urban, and of monthly cost. The result showed that: (1) there were significant differences between male and female on energy, interpersonal relationship and family satisfaction; (2) the difference between rural and urban college students on total score was significant, especially on self satisfaction, life satisfaction, interpersonal relationship and family satisfaction; (3) as to monthly cost, there was significant difference among different levels.
