With the rapid development of digital photography, arguments around it never end. Generally there are two viewpoints, some people think digital photography has a serious negative effect on photography itself and will endanger the existence of traditional film photography, and some others believe that the age of traditional film photography had already passed, for it cannot compete with digital photography. Directed towards these two viewpoints, by using a comparative-analytical method, this thesis points out both the merit\demerit of digital photography itself and its positive\negative effect to photography art. By comparison, the thesis discussed the dialectical relationships between new and old, tradition and modern, reality and figment. In chapter 2 which is about reality and figment, the thesis also discussed photography as a THING and points out it's one-sided to over stress on the visual attribute of photography while ignore it's KEEPSAKE attribute. Finally, the thesis points out: Either we choose film photography or digital photography is not the key of the problem. What is really important is the contents which photography wants to express through its image but not the medium and material to which the image is attached. Furthermore, without the real love and respect to images, it's meaningless even we own the most professional cameras and the most advanced technics.
