Ivan Alekseevitch Bunin is a famous Russian writer in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He has always been a controversial artist in the history of Russian literature. Due to his complex world outlook and his experience of living abroad, he has been treated coldly in his motherland for dozens of years. He didn't get regressed until he passed away. As to this extremely complicated writer, the critics give different comments on him. In this article, the author proposes that when we read Bunin's works, we can't and it's unnecessary to make a conclusion about him, a writer who doesn't have clear intention. Owing to the limitation of the time and environment they were, most critics failed to give objective evaluation. Thus we should return to the version itself and understand those beautiful and real things which are created by him.Selecting his three representative works to expound Bunin's understanding about life, society, love and poetic sentiment, the author inquires into Bunin's poeticized characteristic. He doesn't avoid from miserable life, dark society or cruel love. Once his distinguished spirit is presented in language directly, they make a poetic realm.In his novels, Bunin synthesizes drawing, music and his language is figurative. This artistic expression makes readers feel that there is a kind of inherent poetic quality. In the thesis, the author also analyzes that Bunin's literary talent are connected with his poetic personality and rich artistic accomplishment. He also expounds two of Bunin's creational characteristics: one is his poetic language; the other is his special narrating skill in novel in order to get more aesthetic effects and descriptions according to certain proportion.
