Through the systematic investigation on all TANG ting shu's economic action, this thesis tends to study the peculiarity and process of early comprador into nationalism, and analyze the reason of the transition, The author is determined to make a comprehensive and objective evaluation upon the influence of comprador in the process of early industrialization in China.After the Opium War, along with the invasion of the Western imperialism and foreign trade developed, the foreign trader must select some Chinese who knew China verymuch and loyal as agent. So the comprador emerged. Tang tingshu (1832--1892),modern famous comprador and enterpreur and an important official dealing with westernization movement. He had new knowledge and thought by his west education at childhood. During the period of 1863-1873, Tang tingshu was a comprador and acted dual character of his official business .On one hand he tired to do Chinese business in the foreign bans and promoted British economic invasion, thus showed his comprador nature; on the other, however, as a " senior working man " who worked in the foreign banks, the untrusted and insulted cling to him. Tang tingshu as a Chinese was aware that Chinese should have a strong government. He should own its one ship business promotion department in deal business of navigation and thus expressed his strong nationalism. At 1873, Nationalism made Tang tingshu go into westernization movement. He contributed to the two important industry. Not only did he invest his much capital into industry, but also he brought out capitalist management in the Chinese industry. Tang tingshu participated and made 《Lun chuan zhao shang jv rules》 . 《Lun chuan zhao shang jv constitution》 and 《Kai ping regulations》 which emphasised the industrial commerce nature , protected the benefit of the businessman and invited tender . These got things moving, Lun chuan zhao shang jv and Kai ping deal went smoothly. Tang tingshu's westernization movement had important value: magfying and developing national capital, taking back part power and starting to set up industry. At the late years of Tang tingshu, He also investinto other industry and mining enterprises. These showed Tang tingshu beginning a commercial capitalism to a industrial capitalism.Early industrialization in total is the process of machine instead of handiwork. In modern China It is on one hand transfering western machine industry, on the other hand is traditional handiwork converting into machine industry. Though economic action of Tang tingshu, we could show sight of Tang tingshu accomplish Form comprador to nationalism in the early industrialization in China. Tang tingshu represented some comprador for example Xv run, Yu qiaqing and so on not only did they have capital, but also they got capital and entrepreneur ability together. They saw the benefit and prospect of modern industry because they first got in touch with the foreign trader, they had important influence on the early industrialization through investing modern ship, fabric, mining enterprises . machine construct and so forth.
