Revolutionary realism, as the basic principles and method of the literary and artistic creation of China's revolution, is a special literary phenomenon occurs in the 20th century in China. What is called Revolutionary realism is not a thing of pure literature and art. It is the result of combining the politics with literature and art. And it is the trend of thought in literature and art with clear-cut political character.Liqun is one of the pioneers of the new woodcut movement initiated by Luxun and he is also one of the influential figures in the literature and art of the revolutionary realism in the 20th century. He adheres to the way of producing works of art that reflect real life all along during his artistic career of more than seventy years. He has devoted his life to the cause of national liberation and exploring the national form of the new woodcut.Liqun's woodcuts embody the values that stress art's social function. Liqun believes that artists should stick to the mass viewpoint and create the artistic works loved by the people. His this artistic thought is still attractive at the present society with a variety of artistic ideas but goes so far as to be a valuable social wealth.This article makes a systematical analysis of Liqun's artistic course and the changes of his woodcuts creative style from the angles of artistic sociology. Besides analyzing the connection of art and politics and the connection of art and society, this article expounds the success and failure of the revolutionary art. The practice has proved that the revolutionary realism art is still of great value to our today artistic creation.There are four parts in this article. In the first part, there contains the argument, emphasis and the difficult point that foreshadow the later three parts. In the second part, the writer introduces Liqun's life story and his artistic experience. This part provides basis not only in fact but also in theory for the changes of Liqun's artistic style. The main content of the third part is the changes of Liqun's woodcut style. This part is the emphasis of the whole article. Through the analysis of the Liqun's artistic thought and his woodcut style to initiate people's reflection on revolutionary art. The last part is the summary and extension of the whole article, it expounds the value and practical significance Liqun's artistic creation.
