The main point of this thesis is the study of the Nine Odes. It is one great production of Qu Yuan's. We concentrate our study on the double characters of the Nine Odes. Lots of investigator have been researched it for many years. Some people consider that the character of the Nine Odes is sacred and some people consider that it is lyric. On the base of the study of the grand old man, I educed a conclusion that the Nine Odes has double characters. Its character is link of sacrifice and lyricism. For comprehended the production better, we need know the history and culture background of this production. We need know the author's life experience and his idea too. This thesis has quite a number of spaces about them.Chapter 1 is showing why I chose this subject and some problems I met when I was studying this subject. We discuss the means I adopted in my study. In this chapter, I brought forward my viewpoint.Chapter 2 is discussing the history and culture of Chou. It is a prince's state. Because the slavery was absented in Chou, it has dense wizard belief. This is the source of the character of sacrifice of Nine Odes. But Qu Yuan have a different opinion about the wizard belief, he think that it is a carrier for his poesy.Chapter 3 is discussing the relation of the culture between Chou andZhou or another prince's state. We think that Chou was influenced by Zhou and another prince's state very much. They have offered all things from shape to content to Qu Yuan's poesy.Chapter 4 is conclusion: the Nine Odes have double characters, one is sacrifice and another is lyricism. I considered the sacrifice is exterior and the lyricism is essential.
