Hong Kong Time And Space "new Stories"

Li Bihua, is a unique romantic novel writer in eighties and nineties in the literary world in Hong Kong, who was originally a playwright and then shifted to be a novel writer. From the viewpoint of the text form, all her main works are relied on old stories or recomposed upon old stories. This style of "composing a new story upon the old one" is associated with Lu Xun's novel collection "New Composed Stories" which arose many disputes, as well as the "New Composed Stories" of Liu Yichang , an old writer in Hong Kong literary world , who composed these new stories upon some traditional stories since seventies. In order to research that how the new composed stories are carried on and innovated, this article apply the relevant theories of " intertextuality" and "narrative theories", compare Li Bihua's works with Lu Xun's "new composed stories in a historical and vertical coordinate , with Liu Yichang's "new composed stories" in a dimensional and horizontal coordinate. This article is to analyze the differences in their purposes of recomposition, and how she carried forward and innovated in the viewpoint of narration, in the form of space and time.In the foreword , the writer of this thesis defined the types of the complicated new composed stories, and thus chose the relevant texts of above three writers. This paper consists of four parts:1. The purpose of composing new stories------spirit of times and innovation of thewriters. The ways of recomposition of those three writers have something in common that the art of the novel reflects the spirit of times and the innovation of the writers. But different stories reflect the spirits of different times and the unique recomposition styles of the different writers. By comparison and analysis, we can see that Li Bihua, being in the post-industry time, has no need to be the enlightener as Luxun and has got rid of the embarrassment of being both refine and popular as Liu Yichang. She transformed her business culture sense and values into sense of composition and esthetic conceptions. She is inspired by the religious transmigration and the earthly ghosts and gods to recompose the stories combining both "refine" and "popular" . She mixed more connotations than love into the popular romantic stories and made the stories more thoughtful in historical ,social, esthetic, and philosophical viewpoints.Her post-modernism style of being both serious and humorous is quite similar to Lu Xun's glibness.2. Viewpoint of new composed stories . This compares the viewpoint of Li Bihua's new composed stories with Lu Xun and Liu Yichang and analyzes how she carried on, developed and innovated.2.1 Shift of the different types of viewpoints: In stead of the viewpoints of men in Lu Xun and Liu Yichang's stories, the viewpoints have been shifted to women's in Li Bihua's stories. This likely simple shift put women characters to a remarkable position from a marginal position. This thesis compares the focus of narration and dialogues and then analyzed Li Bihua's innovation of narrating from viewpoint of woman.2.2 Double omniscience viewpoint : the combination of viewpoints of both historical writer and modern writer start a new way of perception that is neither from modern viewpoint nor from historical viewpoint. Li Bihua carried on this tradition and reformed the new text by using the past to satirize the present in a more popular and emotional Hong Kong style.In this reformation, the double viewpoints are more powerful in double query and double deconstruction.2.3 Dynamic wave of narration viewpoint: The similarity of the texts of Li Bihua, Luxun and Liu Yichang is that the more dynamic changes are used in the new stories new stories to exaggerate the atmosphere and deepen the theme.3. The space of the new composed storis. Stories recomposition initiated by Lu Xun is most remarkably innovative in form of space.
