Retirees, Social Support, To Cope With The Way The Relationship Between Sense Of Control And Health Research

This research is based on the analysis of 374 random chosen retirees as subjects. Their completed questionnaires provided information about the relationship between retirees' health and their social support, dealing means, restraining ability. Results showed that:(1). In face of the changes of their original social roles, retirees feel greatly losing social contacts prior to the loss of income and social status.(2). The amount of social support that retirees receive is influenced by gender and education. Male retirees receive objectively higher social support than female retirees. Better-educated retirees get higher objective and subjective social support and are good at using the support than retirees of lower education.(3). Retirees' dealing means are alternate in gender and education. Female retirees of higher education have the lowest. Male retirees of moderate education relatively adopt the dealing means like facing, exploring, fantasying, and retreating.(4). Retirees' restraining ability is affected by education. The higher education they have, the higher controlling ability they possess.(5). Education also influences retiree's health. The higher education the retirees have, the better health they keep. Gender and education affect alternatively their psychological and social health. It is significant that among male retirees, higher education is related to better psychological and social health, but this is not obvious among female retirees.(6). After losing their original social roles, social support, dealing means and restraining ability the retirees have regulate their psychological health on which the direct influence is from losing social contacts, and the indirect influence stems from their subjective support, exploration, fantasy, retreat and restraining ability.?...
