On The Evaluation Of Personal Values

The appraisal of personal value is an important aspect of personal value and is not only a theoretical issue but also a realistic issue.Personal value means that a person as an object meets the demands and interests of human beings as subjects, that is, personal life practical activities have significance and impact, usually meaning the positive aspect on the society including himself. Personal value can also be called life value. It originates in personal creative practice. Personal value is the unity of personal social value and self value and is mainly his social value, that is, his contributions to the society. Personal value has some features such as self-endowment, creativity, objectivism, the duality of creativity and enjoyment, abundance, changeability and peculiarity.The appraisal of personal value is the judgment and evaluation of personal life practical value according to certain standard. It is related to different historical outlooks and conceptions of value and changes with the developing of social politics, economy and culture. Different subjects have different appraisal standard of personal value from their own interests, but the scientific appraisal standard consists in whether personal practice have met the interests of the overwhelming majority of people and propelled the mankind. The appraisal standard of personal value mainly lies in personal labor contributions to the society. At present, under the conditions of socialist market economy, owing to the diversification of conception of value and the negative effect of commodity economy, many phenomena of appraisal of personal value deviating from personal value come out. We should stick to socialist collectivism being the dominant conception of value and oppose the personal standard and egoism and take personal labor creations and contributions as main standard to appraise personal value scientifically. When we appraise a person' life practical value according to the standard, we need follow the principle of objectivism , the principle of entirety, the principle of history, the principle of class, the principle of practice and the principle of human beings' free and all-round development.In order to appraise personal value correctly, while we carry out the scientificappraisal standard and principle, we must handle the following relations correctly: the unified relation between creation and enjoyment, contribution and demand ; the unified relation between end and means; the unified relation between right and duty; the unified relation between motive and effect; the unified relation between material value and spiritual value; the unified relation between social role and personal practical value; the unified relation between personal propelling society and self development.
