In the modern literary world of 1930s, Shi Zhecun's novels had ever made great effects because of his psychoanalytic technique and his concerning about humanity. All of these help him establish his position in the history of modernist literature. People have studied the unique style of Shi Zhecun's novels from many aspects and have got plenty of achievement. But when they analyzed his novels from society, culture and history aspects, they neglected the images of his novels. In this paper, I try to get a general view of the images in Shi Zhecun's novels, so that I can understand his novels more correctly through a new angle. And this paper would discuss the images of Shi Zhecun's novels mainly from the following three aspects.Part one, the construction and meaning of Shi Zhecun's images. Jn this part, I give a definition to "image" at first. Then I give a brief summary of the images, and try to grasp their essence. The images of Shi Zhecun's novels are various, including color, rain, mist, moon, character in history, fan, lamp, business card, highway, theatre, coffeehouse, and so on. They can be sorted into nature images, history images and reality images according to the content. In this paper, I mainly expound some images appeared frequently, such as color, dark, rain, historical character, and lamp. After investigating his images, we can get to know two topics of his novels: the first is to give a description of people's eroticism , the second is to concern about people's present situation.Part two, the organization and aesthetic effects of Shi Zhecun's images. In this part, I mainly expound different aesthetic effects from four aspects. Firstly, the ingenious construction of some images makes the leading characters fall into an unexpected circumstances, then his novels are provided with strong ironic significance. Secondly, some images are organized in opposite way, which makes his novels' structure contradictory, then his novels are provided with dialogic and polyphonic significance. Thirdly, the images can dredge the line of his novels and run through the narrative structure, they can also give us the feeling of the gradation and the feeling of the rhythm, meanwhile the implication of images also gets gradually rich and deep. Fourthly, by utilizing the images, Shi Zhecun made his novels like lyrics, which contain a large number of poetic quality.Part three, the selection and emotion feature of Shi Zhecun's images. In this part, I mainly cast light on the basic emotion feature which was hidden behind his images. On this basis, we can grasp his general attitude of sentimentality concerning about humanity. In a sense, only understand the sentimentality of his novels, can we grasp his mental world. In Shi Zhecun's novels, his sentimentality was made up of various feelings. Here I discuss his sentimentality from three aspects: trouble, fear, and solitude. In fact, these three kinds of sentimentality are the externality of author's inside world. In addition, at the end of this part, I inspect the reason of Shi Zhecun's sentimentality, which includes three aspects: unique personality, nurture of traditional Chinese culture, and social surroundings.Studying the images of Shi Zhecun's novels, we can get a new point of view to have a deep study. Therefore, we find a better way to enter the mental world of Shi Zhecun.
