The thesis, directed by historical materialism as well as Marxism theory on the transformation of "three kind of social stages", studies the development of white-collar class and the social changes caused by this class, and also reveals the law of the changes and development of the modern western capitalist society. The thesis includes four chapters. In these chapters, I discuss the development of white-collar class in the modern western capitalist society, its influence on the changes of the western society, and the causality between them.In the introduction, I review contemporary scholars' predicament about how to explain the new trend of capitalist development, and point out the weakness of the explanation that they have made. And also, thesis shows the significance that study white-collar class from the point of view: history of productivity growth; history of working; history of development of individual capability. In the chapter I , I review the research achievement made by Marxist writers and non-Marxist writers about white-collar. 1 set about my research in a new idea and gave a new definition of white-collar.The chapter II, the most important part of the thesis, points out that the growth of productivity in the western capitalist counties is the pre-condition of the development of white-collar class, and its current situation in the west. It also demonstrates that the development of capability of human material productive activity is the ultimate motivity of social development, and the causality between enhancement of human capability and social development. The chapter III elaborates that the development of white-collar class has exerted a great impact in the political sphere of the developed counties. In these counties, new political thinking and changes have emerged under the impact. The chapter IV is the conclusion. Directed by Marxist theory on the law of development of human society, it demonstrates that the growth of productivity in the developed capitalist counties created pre-conditions for the social transformation from the second stage, which Marx believe that mankind has to be restricted by material conditions in such stage, to the highest stage. The process of development of white-collar class and social changes caused by it show the direction. This is the sublation of capitalism embodying in the process of changes in, capitalist society. Mankind will free itself from the fetters of material world; this is also to say, mankind will certainly go though the realm of necessity to the realm of freedom. The process of sublation is just, as Marx said, the process of human history. At least, the thesis advances an envisagement about how to reach the highest stage.
