Good faith thought has witnessed its long developmental history, which contains Chinese and Western good faith thought, reflecting each other, where there are lots of valuable ideas that form the foundation of modern good faith. The problem of good faith is placed under the modernizing background in the thesis. By studying good faith with a history and logic method together with an abstract, concrete method, commenting meaning of good faith, I hope to master and understand the theory about from a newer angle and a deeper level, to cause people to focus on good faith and to promote its development so as to help us establish good faith system by drawing the essence from western credit system, and provide motive force for our country' s modern development.The thesis is conceived as the flowing. The development and meaning of good fai th are analyzed sufficiently, then the function of good faith is argued completely in contemporary China. On the basis of this, the present problem about lack of good faith is analyzed and the concrete solution to this is brought up. According to this way of thinking, this thesis is composed of four sections:Section one is about investigation to thoughtful origins of good faith and its development from the macro view. As an important moral norm, good faith is not only a person's inner quality, but also his behavior norm. Its basic meaning is that one should be honest to keep promise, and keep his words and actions consistently. The good faith thought among Chinese and Western traditional ethics thought has the different contents and characteristics of oneself, but there is an intrinsic contact. Modern social good faith has new definition different from traditional one under the social modernizing background. Based on merchandise economy, modern good faith not only is a kind of civil contract spirit, but also is a social and public good faith established on the foundation of social fair, and it expresses a kind ofcitizen and person's reasonable spirit.The main content of the second section is about the function of the good faith value. Firstly, It plays an important role in maintaining stability and development of Chinese society. Secondly, it is about a character request for socialist modern development appearing a higher social value. In economy fie ids, good faith is the premise of normal movement and development of market economy, which incentives the market economical working. Then in politic fields, it is also the premise and foundation of the national political normal movement, which is essential to head government, to keep political stability and development for the ruling party. Beyond above, good faith is an important content of a person' s all-round development that is socialist target , which can promote a person' s development. Apparently it is essential to build socialist spiritual civilization for us.Section third is about lack of good faith, which is a key problem for Chinese contemporary society. There exists a large quantity of lack about good faith, such as affecting the social order in economy, politics, and morals fields, weakening the binding force of the morals norm and Chinese international image. The cause of lack about good faith is sophisticated in modern society, containing historical, direct and institutional reasons.Section four is about how to build good faith system. Being poor good faith' s present condition, some views and methods should be offered for us in order to construct good faith society not only in creative of traditional cultural of good faith, legal system, punishment system, credit system but also in credit culture, government consciousness and so on under modernizing background thus the realizing of the target of good faith can be guaranteed.
