The paper addresses what role India plays in the course of the disunion of Pakistan. The concept of Islamic Nation gave rise to the partion of subcontinent in 1947.At the beginning of post-partition, India did not . believe newly-borned Pakistan could exist forever, and managed to combine it. As India learned that Pakistan would not disappear soon, she revised her policy tarward Pakistan into trying to keep Pakistan' s capacity to harm her to a minimum. Thus, Pakistan made greatest efforts to seek foreign help and aids , especially Big Powers' in order to keep a strategic balance with India. Therefore the relationship between India and Pakistan has been in hostility since independence, which encouraged India to determine to weaken Pakistan by helping East Pakistan to secede from Pakistan in 1971.It was the internal conflicts between EastPakistan and WestPakistan that contributed to Pakistan' s division. Before independence, there were many differeces in culture, economy and political institution between the two separated parts, for they had different history and locality. After independence, Pakistan central government always placed West Pakistan in priority, which resulted in East Pakistan' development far behind west part and incured much resentment of easten people. So easten people tried to grasp power to defend their interests. East Pakistan won in national election which held in 1970, but the central government postponed the Assembly session once and again to delay the transfer of power to the representatives of the people. The postponement of the Assembly session was followed by widescale rioting and demonstrations throughout East Pakistan. Pakistan central government determined to repress militarily. As a result, refugees flowed to India. As news of the uprising and repression in East Pakistan spread in India, there was considerable public pressure on the Indian Government to intervene. However, considering demestic situation and international responses, the Indian Government was circumspect, and prefered to await the course of development there before defining its own policy. Following more and more refugees flowed in , India realized this was a great chance to weaken Pakistan. Thereafter, India began to make preparation for military intervention, such as to mobilize international support by advocating refugee issue, and to gain Soviet Union' strong support by signing a treaty with it, ect. In the end, in December, 1971, broke out the third India-Pakistan war, from which the nation of Bangla Desh emerged. Pakistan was disunited.India' s policy and actions promotes and accelerates the emergence of Bangla Desh, so India playes an catalytic role in the course of the disunion of Pakistan.
