The thesis focuses on New-Historical Novel. During the 1980's and the 1990's,the part of young writers interested in writing historical novels, especially the history of the Republic of China, but their view of history and way of writing are different from the past ones. They wanted to express their unique views about history and took a skeptical attitude to old conceptions of history.The first chapter gives a brief account of the New-Historical Novel, including the concept, the development situation, the scope and so on.The second chapter discusses the historical and cultural backgrounds of the New-Historical Novel. Such as historical backgrounds, social political factors, cultural and linguistic context, and the influence of Postmodernism trend of thought.The third chapter is the focal point of the whole thesis. The writers wanted to find the 'new history' in their own memory. Some of them devoted to eliminate mystification of history, and some of them introspected the folk and nationality culture.The forth chapter discussed the new development of New-Historical Novel-'Female New-Historical Novel'. The female writers concerned their own history, so they wrote the female history from their angles, I think it is a 'sexual writing'.The fifth chapter discusses the cultural influence of New-Historical Novel, especially the new expression of films.
