Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) was one of the most famous modern novelists in the twentieth century's England. She and Joyce were regarded as the two most significant representatives of the stream of consciousness. Hence, the most previous studies on Woolf were focused on her techniques of expressing the stream of consciousness and her feminism in her novels. However, a very important fact was neglected, that is: Woolf's near thirty years' writing career was mostly spent during the two world wars. Her novels therefore reflected the reality of the history and naturally had a strong anti-war tendency. This paper is trying to correct the bias and simplism on the previous studies on Woolf. Starting with the war ---the significant historic reality, after a thoroughly analysis of the themes of her novels, the stream of consciousness, and female viewpoint, this paper revealed the uniqueness of Woolf's anti-war thoughts and expressions, explored the true reason of her whole life's spirit pursuit. In summary, this paper is trying to give us a more distinct and accurate understanding about Woolf's novels, her thoughts, and herself...
