Multimedia Arts, which is based on the new materials and technologies, has attracted more and more attentions because ot its media inclusion various art expressions and great potentials. From various levels and perspectives, this paper illustrates the rheologic characteristics of multimedia arts during the continuous development of new media arts through the combination of theories and practices. The development of multimedia arts in the late 20th century is systematically reviewed and a meaningful topic, "the exploration of dimensionality " is introduced. The importance of this topic in the development of arts, especially of multimedia arts is discussed by the demonstrations of some specific examples.Learning from the others can help us realize both of our weakness and potentials. In China, there is a great prospect for multimedia arts but we can also see the artists still can' t cooperate well. The lackness of circulation pathways and feedbacks from public has been a serious problem. So, I believe we should find out the art styles and expressions of our own in art productions with the help of careful learning the advanced techniques from abroad. In this culture-transformation era, the combination of idea revolution and dispassionate and rigorous practices becomes more important.In my own opinion, multimedia arts is a brand-new way to express art thoughts after the days of other art forms. And it will find its own style and climax .The synthesis of other art forms and their interactivity can help multimedia arts with more paths to the art space and I also believe multimedia arts will be a revolution to the way of thinking and will have important influence on arts, sciences and the whole world.
