Xu Kai Serial Interpretation Of Classical Studies

Xu Kai's Shuowen Xizhuan 《说文系传》 is the study object of this thesis .We know it's position in the history of Philology by predecessors' study . Our study center on Xu Kai's explain about ancient writing .The thesis have two section .The first section, we would inquire into the predecessors' studies since Shuowen Xizhuan had published. In Song Dynasty, most of scholars endorsed it. However the scholars of Yuan and Ming Dynasty had different opinion , most of them criticized it. In Qing Dynasty , sinology was in vogue , more and more scholars throw them into the study about Shuowen . By comparison , most of Qing Dynasty scholars criticized it .There are few modem scholars who study Shuowen Xizhuan . most of their studies are exegetical studies . Moreover , the studies don't break away from the range of Zhou Zumo's Xu Kai's Shuowen Xue (周祖谟《徐锴的<说文>学》) . In brief, the studies of Shuowen Xizhuan were short of systematicness . The value of Shuowen Xizhuan is not known enough.The second part, we will compare Jiaguwen (甲骨文) Jinwen (金文) Ancient writing of the Waning States (战国古文) with Ancient writing in Shuowen Xizhuan , require into the developing Orbit of Chinese characters' form , inspect the thing desirable from Shuowen Xizhuan . Xu Kai's explain can be classified seven type . If we conclude Xu Kai's explain by modern philology theory , Xu Kai drew many wrong conclusion in yin and yang theory (阴阳之理) . However, the other six type are more scientific . Shuowen Xizhuan has much influence on posterity . The viewpoint theory that characters are developing from ancient to now has much development on phonology, Philology , Lexicology . It has important position in history of Philology.
