Bailuyuan , written by Chen Zhongshi , occupies an important place in the creation of full-length novels in the 1990s . This paper interprets Bailuyuan from three aspects . They are , the history of individual life ,the history of national culture and social history .In the aspect of the history of individual life , this paper chooses three viewpoints , "a group of women" , Bai Jiaxuan and Tian Xiao'e and it analyses deeply the history of individual life that revealed in Bailuyuan according to the environments and different social status they are in . It draws the conclusion that individual life was in a dilemma in that special historical dimension .In the aspect of the history of national culture ,this paper holds that both the traditional moral concept of "benevolence" and the long-standing family feeling ties have dual character.
