Song Dynasty is an important historic period of social, economical and cultural development in China. With the rapid development of the town and the prosperity of commercial economy, the status of the burgeoning citizen stratum is increasingly rising. Meantime, the rise of citizen culture has a direct influence on the spiritual consume of the citizens in Song Dynasty. It is a symbol of the independence of the citizen stratum. The animateness of the citizen stratum adds vitality to the town's culture and affects other aspects of town's consume. Therefore, the increase of the demand for paintings, the enlargement of the customers provide rich material conditions and solid mass foundation for the development of the paintings. The citizen can dire ctly buy the painting works they need from the markets. Paintings are not only as the appendage of the royal and high officals to whiling away the time, they more tend to show everyday life of the common people. The prosperity of the genre and figure paintings is undoubtedly the supporting evidence of the development of the town's economy from the pespective of the painting arts.
