The Artistic Exploration Of Citizen Culture In The Customs Of The Song Dynasty

The interest in genre painting came from an experience of visiting an exhibition in the National Palace Museum.Fun Fishing Figure drawn in Ming dynasty in that exhibition attracted me a lot,in which it described the daily labor scene of village people in a freehand way.The accurate details and vivid figures especially touched me.After that,I got interested in China' s traditional genre paintings.While understanding them,I found that Song dynasty is the most prosperous period of genre painting,with special artistic charm.Therefore I would like to make further exploration.Before Song dynasty,most of genre paintings described the upper classes such as Taoist priests,gods,emperors and maidens.In Song dynasty,the forms and subjects of genre paintings reached a new height and look.The range of subjects got widened,deeply involved in ordinary people' s daily life,with strong era characteristics and features.Containing special cultural significance and artistic value,China's genre painting came to the peak period of development.This thesis focused on the artistic exploration of citizen culture in Song dynasty genre paintings,and discussed the definition of genre paintings.It limited the research of genre painting in a narrow range,i.e.,mainly the figure paintings with main themes such as daily life of ordinary people,customs,the social styles,etc.Then it elaborated the development status of genre paintings before Song dynasty and the causes of prosperity,and explored the connotative artistic features and significance,to briefly express the enlightenment for my personal creation.
