Chinese painting had close relations with sprits and thoughts since its beginning. Different means of thoughts lead to different styles\ subjects\ functions. Zhou culture in Central Plains and Chu culture in South provided us with primitive and clear examples of relations between thought and painting. After that, the repulsion\ rotation\ and harmony among the thoughts of Confucian\ Dao\ Buddhism, which reflected the spirits in those days and embodied a certain aesthetic ideals\ judgements\ principles, influenced Chinese painting. The artists integrated objective bodies into a quality of poetry or emotional by means of mastering the sprits of the times and artistry and pouring into their own feelings. Therefore, the unity of sprits\ emotions\ forms were realised in Chinese painting; thus formed eastern characteristic art, in which it placed emphasis upon expression instead of represention, stressed the unity of congnition and intuition, seeked refined tastes and others.Knowing the sprits of ancient artists helps us to understand why they dealt with the paintings in this way or that, to analyse tradition and know it clearly, and face the future under the support of tradition. |
