Studying contemporary Cambodian evolvement of political situation and its change of state power has both the academic value and practical significance. In the first part of this paper, Cambodian history after its independence is divided into five periods according to Cambodian evolvement of political situation and its change of state power: Sihanouk Era after Independence (1953.11-1970.3), the Period of Lon Nol State Power (1970.3-1975.4), the Period of the Rule of Khmer Rouge (1975.4-1978.12), the Period of 'Two state powers' existing (1979.1-1991.10) and the period of Cambodia going toward national reconciliation (1993.9-).The first part develops mainly on the basis of the history course and the internal cause of Cambodian evolvement of political situation and its change of state power after its independence. On the basis of the first part the second part analyzes the main causes and the characters of Cambodian evolvement of political situation and its change of state power after its independence. The paper pointes out that the chief political figures such as Norodom Sihanouk, Lon Nol, Sisowath Sirik Matak, Pol Pot, Heng Samrin, Hun Sen were the main internal causes of Cambodian evolvement of political situation and its change of state power after its independence. The international influences spearheaded by United States, Soviet Union and Vietnam were the main external causes of that. Cambodian evolvement of political situation and its change of state power after its independence were dominated by these two internal and external influences, manifesting the typical characters of being dominated by external powers and the frequency of its internal slate power changing and non-continuity of rule policy. The paper finally points out there are four main causes that will influence the trend of Cambodian political situation in the near future. They are: the political struggle between Hun Sen and his CPP and Norodom Ranariddh and his FUNCINPEC, how to deal with the leaders of Khmer Rouge, King Norodom Sihanouk' passing away in the future, and the change of international situation and circumstances. The paper further points out after analyzing the above four causes that CPP headed by Hun Sen will rapidly become the dominating influence in the Cambodian political affairs, and it will lead Cambodian people to make final national reconciliation and make final peace in Cambodia, which will make advantageous conditions for a prosperous and strong Cambodia.
